Nintendo has officially announced that the highly anticipated film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda will be releasing on April 30, 2027, one week earlier than what was previously scheduled.
Series creator and movie producer Shigeru Miyamoto excitedly made the announcement on Nintendo’s official page on X, confirming that the filmmakers are “working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible.”
Nintendo first revealed that a movie based on The Legend of Zelda video game franchise in 2023, shortly after the success of the blockbuster film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with the project having been in development for multiple years at that point.
The movie is being produced jointly by Nintendo, Columbia Pictures, Oddball Entertainment, and Arad Productions, and is being co-financed by Sony Pictures. Wes Ball–known for The Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes–is directing, with a script written by Derek Connoly (Jurassic World, Kong: Skull Island, Pokémon Detective Pikachu) and T. S. Nowlin (The Maze Runner, Pacific Rim Uprising).
