Sony State of Play: June 2026
After about one hour of announcements and updates, Sony wrapping up their June State of Play with an extended look at a brand-new mainline God of War title; however, it may not venture in the direction some fans were thinking.
Santa Monica Studios brings us God of War: Laufey, a third-person action title where we follow Faye, Kratos’ deceased wife, into the afterworld. After her death in God of War (2018), Faye finds herself in a new realm where she meets gods spanning across various mythologies. Faye must fight her way through this perilous afterlife to continue her promise to protect her loved ones.
We got to see the first 20 minutes of gameplay; from the moment her spirit left her body to battling a Buddhist war god. She meets a cube named Frank and a sword named Rue. The world is colorful and overflowing with magic. Gameplay ran smoothly, showcasing Faye’s nimble controls. She is able to double-jump and perform aerial attacks. In addition to swordplay, she wields powers in her hand that glows a golden light. She can even force a soul from a physical body.
Of course, despite the hype, we also drew in all the hate-charged comments, calling the game “woke” and “leftist”:
Despite the presence of the anti-woke mob throwing claims of leftist ideology over a female protagonist, there is much to look forward to in the next mainline God of War game. The release date is TBD. Check out the trailer for yourself:
