During Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Ryan Coogler (Sinners, Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, etc.) announced that he’s returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct the Black Panther 3 film, which is set to release on December 15, 2028. Additionally, Coogler welcomed David Jonsson as the new Black Panther (T’Challa’s son) in the upcoming film.
If it’s your first time hearing about the British actor, David Jonsson, I’ve got you covered right here. You might want to familiarize yourself with the talent before the film comes out. All the projects Jonsson has worked on are phenomenal in their own right and elevated by the work he puts into them. Black Panther 3 will be no different.

Peter McVries in The Long Walk (2025)
I was introduced to Jonsson from Stephen King’s The Long Walk. The monologue shown in the video above speaks for itself.
Dom in Rye Lane (2023)
The film Rye Lane is a romantic-comedy that showcases his range in genre. He can do it all. The on-screen chemistry with the equally amazing Vivian Oparah was a welcome sight.
Andy in Alien: Romulus (2024)
Jonsson’s performance as Andy was eerie and brilliant. He was often still during moments of chaos, giving the synthetic human a layer of creepiness that was thrilling to watch.
Taylor in Wasteman (2025)
Acting alongside Tom Blythe, Jonsson proves he does well in dramatic action-packed films like Wasteman.
In conclusion, sit down and give these films a try before you harshly judge Coogler’s decision to cast Jonsson as the next Black Panther. He has a good history of amazing casting anyway. Just look at Miles Canton’s debut role in Sinners as an example. Amazing through and through.
