RuneScape Reignited Canceled Just 12 Days After Reveal

2–3 minutes

Developer Jagex has confirmed that RuneScape Reignited has been canceled only 12 days after it was first announced.

First revealed on October 3 during RuneFest 2026, Reignited was to be a fresh game mode that would allow new players to experience the game away from veterans, many of whom have been playing the game for over two decades now. Rookie players would have control of their own economy, and it would prevent veterans from trading or joining boss encounters with those with new accounts.

Reignited was slated to be released on December 2, 2026.

Longtime fans of RuneScape have been very vocal about their dislike for Reiginited, sharing concerns that the new mode would further divide the player base, which is crucial for success in an MMORPG.

The lack of further enhancements, like improved graphics, was also cited as a disappointment, as new features could have at least interested those that had dropped the game years ago.

Creative director Mod Ryan stated that the game mode was canceled due to overwhelming fan feedback.

“We received a ton of different perspectives from all of you, and we truly appreciate everyone sharing their views,” he wrote. “It is super important to us because the last time we didn’t listen to player feedback, combat changed forever. And it has taken us over a decade to recover from that. Now I said on stage that we would not repeat the same mistakes of the past, and I truly stand by that. Considering this, we have made the decision to cancel Reiginited.”

“It is clear that we missed the mark on this,” he continued, “and so we are not moving forward with it. Our goal is to see RuneScape grow again, with returning players coming back and new players joining, but never at the expense of our existing community.”

In a gesture of goodwill, beginning on December 2–the original release date for Reignited—RuneScape will offer a 10-day free trial that will allow new characters who have been created after June 2 to access “Runescape Members” worlds and content.

Also at RuneFest 2026, Jagex revealed RuneScape 4 is now officially in development, and that new improvements will be coming to the existing game, such as an “Adventure Guide.”

What are your thoughts on RuneScape Reignited being axed? Were you anticipating the new mode, or do you think it would cause more harm than good to the RuneScape community? Sound off in the comments below, and follow us for all your gaming content!
