Recap: Annapurna Interactive Showcase

Last week, EA presented their digital showcase for their upcoming games and as the summer continues to roll out, more video game reveals are being shown. This time, Annapurna Interactive delivered a few surprises while showing some updates to gamers that we know. Without further ado, let’s get into the 25-minute presentation.

Starting with The Artful Escape, Annapurna Interactive revealed more game play elements while announcing a huge list of actors voicing various characters in the game. This colorful and visual sci-fi trio mixes well with the 2-D platforming, utilizing a psychedelic aesthetic that will take you through various lands.

The voice cast is very impressive. Michael Johnston, who voiced characters in games like Kingdom Hearts III, Dust: An Elysian Tail, and Tales Of Zestina, will play the main role of Francis Vendetti. Caroline Kinley, in her first voice-over roll, will play as Violetta, who seems to be a friend of Francis. Other names include Lena Headey, Jason Schwartzman, Mark Strong, and Carl Weathers of classic films such as Action Jackson and Rocky. The Artful Escape will release on September 9 of this year on Xbox One, Series X|S, Game Pass, and on Steam. Check out the trailer to see it in action.

The next game presented was Neon White for Nintendo Switch and Steam. Presenters previously revealed this game last year during a Nintendo Direct, and the trailer explained what the game is about and went into detail about the gameplay. Neon White is described as a “single player, speed running FPS” from the creator of Donut County, Ben Esposito. You play as White, a dead assassin from Hell, who is given ten days to purge the demonic invasion in Heaven. You are competing with other assassins to have the right to stay in Heaven.

The game play uses “Soul Cards” that may be used to fight, to maneuver swiftly, and to reach the end as quickly as possible. Check out the trailer for more information as Neon White will hit Nintendo Switch and Steam this holiday.

Annapurna Interactive announced a new partnership with Outer Loop, who made Falcon Age. Representatives from the company didn’t announce their next game, but they did introduce themselves and share what they have done in the industry.

The next announcement was the reveal for A Memoir Blue by Cloisters. In this beautiful adventure game, you take your character to visit various places and recall memories you had with your mom. After watching the trailer, you can expect a Talk The Walk episode for this game. A Memoir Blue will appear on Xbox One, Series X|S, Game Pass, PS5|PS4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and on the Apple Store. No official release date has been set as of this moment.

Another partnership was announced, but this time, it was with Jessica Mak. She helped make Sound Shapes with Santa Monica Studios and Queasy Games. Living in Toronto, she is self-developing her next project around music with cool changes in the world. No official title was revealed; but for the music lovers in gaming, this may be one to check out.

The next game revealed was Storyteller. In this game, you are given a title, setting, and some characters. You must create the story and build from it. You drag and drop characters and more to progress through the game. Check out the trailer for Storyteller. Coming soon on Nintendo Switch and Steam. A demo is playable now on Steam, so go and give it a try.

We got an update for Solar Ash. With new scenes shown from the game and a actual release date, Solar Ash continues to impress with each showing. The game will be available on PS5|PS4 and Epic Game Store on October 26. Here’s the latest trailer for Solar Ash.

Another partnership Annapurna Interactive made is with the new studio Ivy Road. In this funny and charmful reveal, Davey Wreden (Stanley Parable and The Beginner’s Guide) and Karla Zimonja (Co-creator of Gone Home and Tacoma) came together to have tea and announce the new studio, along with the information that they’re working with their good friend Daniel Rosenfeld or better know as C418, who did the music for Minecraft. Together they are creating a new game that they cannot yet talk about. It’s a cute video–you should watch.

The next game update was for Skin Deep. Presenters showed some new gameplay on what players can do in the game. You can put this game on your Steam wish list now. Check out the trailer if you want to know more about the game.

Another game update focus was Stray. In Stray, you play as a stray cat that navigates a world with only robots and lacking humans. Announced for PS5|PS4 and Steam, the game looks different than its first appearance. Planned for a Early 2022, Stray seems to be a purr-fect game to get your claws on.

The last partnership announced was with No Code Entertainment Production. They are the developers for Observation. They are working on a new game that will be horror themed. At this time, no title or reveal of how it looks is available. Stay tuned for future updates later in the year.

The last game that was presented with an update was Outer Wilds. First, the game is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.
