March 20th saw the One Year Anniversary of Nintendo’s immensely successful Switch title Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the game is celebrating with an update that brings tons of new content.
Players logging into the game after installing the update (which released on March 18th) will be surprised with a 1st Anniversary Cake sent to their in-game mailbox via Nook Inc. The cake is a charming depiction of the island paradise the player can craft as their virtual home.
The long awaited Custom Design Pro Editor+ is also part of the update. The feature upgrades the pre-existing Custom Design App that’s located in the game’s NookPhone, and allows more robust editing tools, such as customizing umbrellas, flags, photo stands, and more. There is even an expansion of 50 new design slots to use in both Normal Custom Design mode and Pro Custom design mode.
The update also provides use for the Sanrio Collaboration Amiibo Cards that will be available exclusively at Target stores starting March 26th. Each of the six packs can be scanned to bring a different resident inspired by the popular Sanrio clothing brand to your island. These even include special furniture and clothing items, as well as other special secrets.
Lastly, the anniversary update includes new spring seasonal events. Special items can be purchased from the Nook Shopping Service in preparation for April Fool’s Day on April 1st, while prom themed items will be available in the Able Sister’s shop throughout the entire month of April. This is exciting news, as last year the game did not feature either of these events, which is a good indicator that Nintendo plans on continuing to enhance New Horizons for some time yet.
