Activision confirmed on Thursday that action movie icons John Rambo and John McClane will be joining the fight in various Call of Duty games. The news comes after rumors spread following teases from the official Call of Duty Twitter account.
Beginning on May 20th, players will be able to outfit their character to appear like the film idols in Call of Duty: Warzone, Black Ops Cold War, and Mobile.
The Twitter account originally posted a teaser on May 5th, highlighting a supposed player’s “Warzone Report Card” with impressive stats. Intuitive fans noted that the theoretical player, named “SURVIVORJOHN#1009062,” had a kill count matching the total of people killed in Rambo movies, as well as a record of “5 wins,” which also matched the amount of Rambo films to date.
A similar tweet was made on May 12th, this time referencing a player named “COWBOYMCCLANE#0070030,” which many correctly guessed was a reference to the star of the Die Hard film series.
This isn’t the first video game crossover to feature the John Rambo character, as he has also recently appeared as a downloadable guest character in the popular fighting game Mortal Kombat 11.
John Rambo first appeared in the 1972 novel First Blood by David Morrell, but would become a pop culture icon when star Sylvester Stallone portrayed him in the 1982 film adaptation and four subsequent films.
John McClane was portrayed by Bruce Willis in the 1988 blockbuster hit Die Hard, and has reprised the role in a total of five films.
While both actors have agreed to lend their likeness to the Call of Duty versions of the popular characters, it is unknown if they have contributed their talents in any other ways, such as providing voice acting.
