New details for the upcoming Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope turn-based strategy game have been unveiled during Ubisoft’s E3 panel.
The game, which is a collaboration between Ubisoft and Nintendo, was unexpectedly announced earlier today when the product went live on Nintendo of Europe’s official website. It’s unclear if the reveal was by accident or intentional, but product information has since been removed from the listing.
Ubisoft showcased two new trailers, one focusing on gameplay while the other more story driven. The gameplay trailer features Mario, Rabbid Peach, and Rabbid Luigi exploring a tropical setting, fighting against red-eyed foes that seem to be possessed by darkness. The cinematic trailer has our heroes exploring space when disaster strikes.
The description for the gameplay trailer on Ubisoft North America’s official YouTube page states that our heroes will be traveling “through the universe to free each planet from an evil influence,” further hinting that the game may be heavily inspired by the Super Mario Galaxy series of games.
Some new characters also made an appearance, such as a helper which seems to be a cross between a luma from Super Mario Galaxy and a rabbid. Noteworthy too is a punk-rock inspired rabbid that wields a sword reminiscent of Cloud’s “buster sword” from Final Fantasy VII. Rabbid Rosalina can also be seen near the cinematic trailer’s end.
