Cyberpunk 2077 released in September of 2020 to a slew of controversy. Upon release, PC gamers lauded the game for it’s graphical fidelity and fun gameplay; however, console gamers (specifically PS4 and Xbox One owners) experienced a lot of glitches and game-breaking bugs, rendering the game unplayable for many. Besides that, there were stories of game saves being erased, storefronts issuing refunds, the developer CD Projekt Red being hacked, and even Sony itself de-listing it from their marketplace until the game reached a higher level of quality.
It would continue to be a rough few months post-release to fix the many glitches and bugs in the game, even prompting an apology video from CD Projekt Red co-founder Marin Iwinski, taking responsibility for the failure, providing a road map for improvements to the game, and a release window for a PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade.
After months and months, and gigabytes and gigabytes of updates, it seems like Cyberpunk 2077 would finally be playable. CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kicinski spoke at the WSE Innovation Day in Poland, and according to an interview with TVN24, he said, “We have already reached a satisfactory level [of stability]. We have also worked on the overall performance, and we are quite satisfied with that. Of course, we have also fixed bugs and glitches, and we will continue to do so. Over time, we will be introducing fixes to the general systems that players have pointed out as needing improvement.”
As a result of the “satisfactory” nature of the game now being playable for many, Sony has brought the game back to it’s online storefront, however with a warning to players who are using the old PlayStation 4 console, saying “purchase for use on PS4 systems is not recommended.”
Cyberpunk 2077‘s Twitter page also confirmed that a PS5 upgrade is slated to release sometime in the second half of 2021, which brings hope to next gen console owners.
There are more fixes and improvements to come, and CD Projekt Red vowed to continue to improve the gameplay experience across the board for everyone.
