Saturday during the Ubisoft Forward Event, one of the nice surprises was the revival of Rocksmith, the interactive tool that actually teaches players how to play guitar. Developed by Ubisoft San Francisco, Rocksmith Plus is the evolution of the 2014 game, building on the original concepts into a robust learning system and subscription service for newcomers and veterans alike.

Rocksmith producer, Arthur Von Nagel, discussed the product at length, diving deep into how simple they’ve made it to use whatever guitar or bass the player has, plugging it into a PC, console, or smart device, and connecting the app to the Rocksmith Plus to start learning immediately.
There are multiple ways to learn too, so if you prefer learning rhythm guitar, there’s a mode for that. If you’re a note-for-note kind of artist, there’s a section for you too. New this time around is the ability to learn how to read the sheet music while you play, as it allows the focus of strumming to be displayed on the TV, while a smart device turns into the notes.
Von Negel also stressed that the service is as much for veterans as it is for newbies, even providing tools to alter existing tracks to mix things up, keeping the most seasoned musicians feeling challenged and fresh. There’s also an enhanced song recommendation system implemented for a better personalized experience.
Rocksmith Plus is now in open beta, with subscription prices released in a Ubisoft press release after the event. One month is $14.99 (USD), three months cost $39.99 (USD), and providing the best bang for your buck is the one year subscription for $99.99 (USD).
The full release of Rocksmith Plus comes out later this year. Will you be attempting to become the next big rockstar with this service? Let us know in the comments or on our Discord server!
