If you haven’t heard of Skyrim, the game re-released a total of seven times, the chances are slimmer you have heard of Shirley Curry. She is an 85 year old woman living in Ohio who plays and streams the game. She calls her viewers ‘Grandkids’ and shares screenshots of her adventures in the land of Tamriel on her twitter. She is a beloved community member for those that know of her, and it shows with one of the newer companion mods to come out.
The mod adds her as a follower in your games. It was uploaded by user Thesparalius to a popular modding website. Her attitude and charming demeanor contrast her soft voice and reserved commentary in the game. Most mods use computer generated audio or spliced commentary from videos, but this is genuinely voiced by Shirley. She gave the mod her blessing and voiced all the lines they needed to get her heavy, two handed warrior of a character her own bit of pizazz.
The mod is less than ten downloads short of 10,000 as of July 17, 2021, with Skyrim approaching its ten year anniversary as a nice coincidence. After that long of being in the land of Skyrim, and even longer in the continent of Tamriel if you played earlier games like Morrowind or Oblivion, having a cheerful old lady to both bash in the heads of your enemies and knit you a tea cozy is a happy distraction from the doom and peril you would usually face alone.
