Nintendo delivered a new Indie World Showcase today, and if you’re a fan of indie titles, the presentation did not disappoint. Showing 19 games in total, the Indie World came with some titles planned for next year and some dropping today. Without further ado, let’s check out the sights and sounds of the games they showed.
The first game Nintendo revealed was the hip and stylish skating game, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. With its cel-shaded graphics, hip hop music style, and street graffiti art, it looks like a spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio. The game release is planned for 2022, and it seems it is getting great buzz from the gaming community. Check out the debut trailer.
The next game was the monochromatic and cute game, Toem: A Photo Adventure. In this game, you’ll go around and take pictures for others while listening to some chill music. It seems to be a quirky and relaxing game that many will enjoy. Toem: A Photo Adventure is set to release this fall. Watch the adorable trailer to see it in action.
Next up was Loop Hero. In Loop Hero, you place cards and fight battles against monsters while opening up the area you are walking around in a loop. The game has been out for other platforms, but it’s finally arriving on Nintendo Switch this Holiday.
FAR: Changing Tides is the sequel to the single player adventure game FAR: The Lone Sails. This time, the game is vibrant in colors as you explore a post-apocalyptic world. Take a look at the trailer for this gorgeous, yet lonely journey of a game.
Necrobarista: Final Pour mixes the storytelling of Coffee Talk with the beautiful anime style aesthetic to bring the dead back to life for one more drink. Hear their story while trying to make some great drinks in this stylish Director’s Cut of a remaster. Necrobarista: Final Pour is out now. Check out the trailer.
If you were expecting some shadow drops from the Indie World direct, you won’t be disappointed as Garden Story and Axiom Verge 2 are available now on Nintendo Switch. What’s more, you’ll be able to order physical copies from Limited Run Games on October 1st for Axiom Verge 2, and you’ll be able to buy the Axiom Verge 1 & 2 Collection.
Next up was Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon. Available this holiday, you’ll take Shovel Knight in this action-packed dungeon crawler (with some puzzle mechanics thrown in)on an adventure to escape the mysterious pocket dungeon. Check out the trailer for more details.
Islanders: Console Edition is a sim game where you’ll build upon an island. A simple premise, but so much to create and discover. Islanders: Console Edition is available today. Watch the trailer below:
Next up was Metal Slug Tactics. Announced at Summer Game Fest, this tactical game is arriving on the Nintendo Switch. Position your troops right and eradicate the enemies the best way you can and sync up with your troops to do extra damage. Check out the trailer as it’s planned for a 2022 release.
The big surprise was Tetris Effect: Connected. This hip take on Tetris will have you connected around the world, battling other players while listening to a wide variety of music that will keep you in the game and bobbing your head. Check out the trailer as Tetris Effect: Connected arrives on October 8.
Before Nintendo showed the last game of the show, they delivered a sizzle reel of games coming to Nintendo Switch. Astroneer, Hundred Days: Winemaking Simulator, Slime Rancher: Portable Edition, LumbearJack, Curious Expeditions 2, and Gang Beast were all shown. Not much time was spent on these games, but it’s exciting to see these titles.
Nintendo ended the showcase with Eastward by Chucklefish. Officially announcing the release date for September 16, this magical top-down RPG has been in development for a while, and with its 16-bit sprites and chiptunes closer to release, it looks like it could be a contender for RPG of the year. With 19 indies coming to Switch today and in the near future, it shows how Nintendo welcomes these creative and diverse games to their platform. With more in store to be announced and given release dates, expect to see another Indie World Showcase later this year.
