The first trailer for the movie adaptation of the hit PlayStation franchise Uncharted was just released–you can see it in full below:
The movie stars Tom Holland as explorer Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor/ally Sully. By the looks of the trailer, the movie seems to be adapting elements across several games in the franchise, most notably Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception with the airplane scene and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End with mentions of Nathan’s brother Sam.
Movie adaptations of video games have a checkered history, with the majority of them not being really anything to write home about. This movie is facing its fair share of hurtles, from a difficult pre-production process to fans of the video games questioning the casting of Holland as Nathan and Wahlberg as Sully. Time will tell if this will brake the video game to movie curse, or if this will be yet another example of how difficult it is to turn video games into movies. Uncharted will release exclusively in theaters on February 18th.
