90’s video game icon Earthworm Jim is set to return with a new animated TV series, Variety has reported exclusively.
The show is being produced by Interplay Entertainment Corp, along with partnership from APA. Animation will be performed by the Academy Award winning studio Passion Pictures.
A sneak-peek trailer for the project is available below.
The series will follow the titular Earthworm Jim as he travels the galaxy and does battle with vicious evildoers such as Psy-Crow, Bob the Killer Goldfish, and Queen Slug-for-a-Butt.
The news comes as Interplay is working to develop new television and film projects based on their video game properties. Other franchises that they have rights to include MDK, Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Cyberia, and Titus Fox.
Michel K. Parandi and Aaron Billet are listed as leading the production of the series, with Marc Bodin-Joyeux overseeing animation.
Earthworm Jim was first released on the Sega Genesis and Super NES in 1994 to critical and commercial acclaim. In 1995, a cartoon series produced by Warner Bros. ran for two seasons and stared Dan Castellaneta.
A new video game is currently in development for the Intellivision Amico, with only a short gameplay trailer thus far being released.
