Game developer Volition announced via Twitter on Wednesday that their upcoming reboot of the popular Saints Row franchise is moving its release date from February 25, 2022, to August 23, 2022.
The developer revealed the game just this past August during the opening night of Gamescom 2021.
The original release date of February 25th is also the day that From Software’s hotly anticipated open world RPG Elden Ring will release, so it’s probably best for the rescheduling if only to avoid the stiff competition.
Chief Creative Officer of Volition Jim Boone stated that while the game could release on the original date, the development team believe that extra time is needed to reach “the standards we’ve set ourselves, and that you’re expecting and deserve.”
High profile games releasing in unpolished states have become a major talking point in the gaming industry as of late, with major titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition receiving massive criticism for their botched releases. Volition and all other game developers would be wise to not rush a release when extra polish is needed so as to avoid such major backlash.
