Everwild was a real surprise when it was announced at the XO19 event in November of 2019. It’s whimsical art style and beautiful world was different and a nice surprise for Xbox fans. When creative director Simon Woodroffe left the company, the community was worried that Xbox had another game development hell with the team without a true leader. Rest assured, Rare’s follow up title to Sea of Thieves reworked their development team, headed by executive producer Louise O’Connor, lead designer James Blackham, and Rare’s studio art director, Ryan Stevenson.

Now, Rare has added more firepower to it’s arsenal, hiring Alien: Isolation‘s lead designer, Gary Napper. Napper is no stranger to Team Xbox, being a part of the early development at Sega of Halo Wars 2 and moving to the Alien team shortly after. He took to Twitter stating that he was “Really looking forward to making some making some amazing things with this incredible team and studio.”
Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios, gave players an update on Everwild earlier this summer, stating reports of a reboot were “probably a little more definite, a little more extreme than what really happens as a game comes to life.” Even if the game is still a ways off, they’re moving in the right direction, taking their time, and making what is hopefully another successful game for Xbox.
