On Wednesday, a new poster for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie was unveiled, along with news that the first trailer will be debuting during tonight’s Games Awards.
The poster depicts the “blue blur” riding atop an airplane piloted by his sidekick Miles “Tails” Prowler, with the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carey) in pursuit while riding in his iconic egg-shaped drone.
The poster is noteworthy for showcasing one of the most memorable scenes from the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2 video game, released on the Sega Genesis/Master System in 1992. This could hint that the anticipated film adaptation will lean heavier on the video games than on the universe established in the first movie.
Also of note is that Carey’s Robotnik appears even more like his video game counterpart, adopting more of an “egg-shape” than in the first film.

There has already been a good deal of information that’s come out about Sonic 2, including that actor Idris Elba will be portraying Knuckles the Echidna (and that the animated character definitely “will not be sexy”), and that Colleen O’Shaughnessy will be reprising her role as Tails.
