Popular video game streamer Dr. Disrespect (real name Herschel Beahm IV) has formed a new AAA game development studio with former Halo and Call of Duty developers.
The studio, called Midnight Society, lists Robert Bowling and Quinn DelHoyo as co-founders. Bowling previously worked as community manager and creative strategist of CoD developer Infinity Ward from 2006 until 2012; DelHoyo was a multiplayer and level designer for Epic Games while developing Gears of War 3 and Gears of War Judgment, and later went to 343 Industries to help design numerous Halo titles.
This isn’t Beahm’s first foray into game development, as he entered the industry as a community manager for Sledgehammer Games in 2011, before moving on to help in the creation of multiplayer maps for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
Beam’s streaming persona, Dr. Disrespect, has had a major presence in the streaming scene since he began in 2015. Known for his expert skill in battle royale games such as PlayerUnKnown’s Battlegrounds, he won “Streamer of the Year” in 2017 at the Esports Industry Awards, as well asthe “Trending Gamer” category at The Game Awards.
Dr. Disrespect, as appropriate to his name, is also no stranger to controversy. In 2019, his Twitch channel was suspended temporarily for recording while in a public bathroom at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). In 2020, his Twitch account was permanently banned for reasons unknown.
Its unknown at this time exactly what projects Midnight Society is working on, but based on the backgrounds of its founders, it is safe to say that it is likely a competitive, multiplayer based first-person shooter.
