Before Halo existed, the Nintendo 64 was considered the king of console first person shooters for most, giving players experiences like GoldenEye 007, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Doom 64, and Perfect Dark. Since then, Joanna Dark has seen a remake and a prequel on Xbox 360 along with a proper reimagining coming to Xbox Series consoles in the near future from The Initiative and Crystal Dynamic’s collaborative effort simply titled Perfect Dark. Bond has also seen plenty of action in the gaming space, including a Daniel Craig version of the N64 classic, a few first person shooters from Activision, car combat based titles, and a massive game on the horizon from Hitman developer IO Interactive.

Now, it seems Bond’s Nintendo 64 outing is coming back in a big way on the Xbox if some leaks are to be believed. In a recent find from True Achievements, the title’s achievements have been unlocked by several employees from Rare. Some thought that this was a revival of the XBLA version being developed during the Xbox 360 generation, but the achievements and their art are different than that list. There are 55 achievements worth a total of 1,000 Gamerscore, with one hidden achievement.

Wario 64 took to Twitter showing off some of the Achievement art that seems to fit what True Achievements had originally reported as well as a thumbnail from the Microsoft Store:
As you can see, the list is very intriguing and arguably real. This would mark the first time this version of GoldenEye 007 would be released outside of the Nintendo 64 ever. A report back in 2017 suggested that Nintendo only had a 20 year licensing deal to publish the title, though nothing ever came to light until now. Licensing has always been the issue for a rerelease due to a complicated spiderweb of who owns which part and who can publish what where.
My Take:
I don’t see Microsoft making a ton of money off of this, they seem to be making yet another “good guy” move for Xbox gamers. It will be interesting to see what kind of work Rare and Microsoft will put into this to make it feel like a modern shooter, though I expect no less of an effort than what they put into the XBLA version of Perfect Dark.
