Bungie has been teasing new projects within and outside of Destiny for a long time, including an untitled class based multiplayer game and a separate project titled Matter. As the company expands and the future of Destiny is set for the next three to five years with The Witch Queen, Lightfall, and The Final Form, it’s no surprise that they would want to expand their portfolio.
While we don’t really know if this is actually related to Destiny or not, what we do know that they’ve made some major hires. Recently, Bungie hired former Guild Wars story lead, Tom Abernathy, as the Narrative Lead for this new project. He celebrated with this tweet:
Bungie announced last February they were planning launch their new IP in 2025 and expand their studios, opening a new location in North America and a publishing arm in Amsterdam. They also signed a multimillion dollar deal with Chinese investor Netease for one of these projects.
There are a lot of rumors floating around about these games but one thing is for sure, Bungie is alive and well. For Destiny fans specifically, rest assured: Destiny will continue when the Light and Dark Saga ends. It will be nice to see Bungie as a multigame studio again after almost 25 years. Are you excited to see what’s next from Bungie?
