Ever since the rise of PUBG and Fortnite‘s popularity, there have been a lot of discussions surrounding a Halo battle royale, ranging from “of course we’re looking into adding the game mode” to “the only BR in Halo will be the battle rifle.” There is no denying that these titles are no doubt popular, with everyone from EA to Ubisoft entering the genre with varying degrees of success with APEX Legends and Hyperscape, respectively.
It seems the popular multiplayer genre will be arriving in Halo Infinite, rumored to be developed by long-time Halo multiplayer developer Certain Affinity. Windows Central reported that the company is working on a multiplayer mode that would be more accessible than Slayer and Big Team Battle for casual players and newcomers. Windows Central’s sources seem to confirm its status as a Battle Royale, which would be interesting within Halo‘s sandbox.
“Certain Affinity has long been a close partner of Microsoft, working on various Halo titles from Halo 2, through to the Master Chief Collection to Halo Infinite. I’ve received some separate hints that Certain Affinity may also be working on a new game mode for Halo Infinite, which could be a take on the popular battle royale formula or something completely different entirely.”

My Take
I would love to see a Battle Royale within the Halo sandbox. The weapons and abilities seem hand crafted for the mode, and adding different accessories to the weapons similar to APEX would go a long way. It could be a different type of accessible game mode, for sure, but considering its being developed outside 343 entirely with a developer who specializes in grand multiplayer experiences, it would almost seem like a disappointment at this point if it wasn’t a battle royale.
