Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Coming Soon

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of the biggest video game success stories of all time, regularly topping the charts and coming in as the top selling Nintendo Switch game at 43.25 million as of December 31, 2021. This is a remarkable feat when you consider the Deluxe version came out in 2017, but is essentially a gussied up version of the Wii U release which launched in 2014. The game is eight years old, and yet it is the top selling game on the Nintendo Switch. Unheard of. Especially when you consider that the game remained mostly the same since its release in 2014–relatively few tracks have been added since it dropped.

With rumors heating up of a Mario Kart 9 in the works, it seemed like any hope for DLC for Deluxe was just wishful thinking…until today’s Nintendo Direct. Announced towards the end of the 40-minute presentation, the Booster Course Pass consists of six waves containing eight remastered courses pulled from all previously released Mario Kart games, including Mario Kart Tour for smart phones. That’s a whopping 48 new courses to race in both local and online multiplayer.

The first wave of eight courses releases on March 18, 2022 and will contain Coconut Mall from Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart 64‘s Choco Mountain, and Mario Kart Tour‘s Tokyo Blur, among others.

The best part? If you are already a subscriber of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, this DLC comes at no additional cost. Don’t have that membership? You can purchase the first wave of courses for $24.99 (USD) when it releases in March.
