Dead Space Developer Stream Coming This Friday

This coming Friday, March 11, Motive Studio will bring fans a new showcase for the upcoming remake of Dead Space in a developer livestream.

Making the announcement via Twitter, Motive is inviting all gamers to have a look at the “latest in their series of early looks at the development and what goes into the remake of a game.” The livestream can be seen on both the Dead Space YouTube and Motive Studio Twitch channels at 10am PST / 1pm EST / 6pm GMT.

Details reveal that this livestream will focus on the studio’s philosophy for taking Dead Space’s award-winning audio design to the next level by bringing the game to today’s generation of platforms and the new Frostbite™ engine – while still remaining faithful to the iconic atmosphere, mood, and sounds you know and love. There’s even a sidenote recommending the stream would be best watched “with headphones”.

During the stream, Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola, Senior Producer Philippe Ducharme, and Audio Director Olivier Asselin will be providing fans an in-depth look at what the team is improving and updating in the audio design, and talk specifically about an innovation called the A.L.I.V.E. System. With the A.L.I.V.E. System, gamers get a taste of how the system that controls series hero Isaac Clarke’s heart rate, breathing, and dialogue delivery will sound. The devs will also go over how modern-day audio occlusion enhances Dead Space’s many sounds and how effects for weapons like the plasma cutter and pulse rifle have been updated.

The Dead Space remake was revealed last July during EA’s Live Play event accompanied by a teaser trailer. During a previous developer showcase, gamers were treated to the announcement that Gunner Wright will be returning to voice Isaac (who was previously a silent protagonist in the original Dead Space game) and also learned about the new “peeling” combat mechanic which lets players shoot the flesh off of enemies to expose bone and guts.

There’s been no official release date announced as yet for Dead Space, but an IGN report speculates that the remake is being aimed for a Fall 2022 release.

Dead Space Remake is currently in development for release on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. It is based on the popular 2008 action-horror title of the same name originally developed by Visceral Games.
