Nintendo has been doing a great job with bringing fan favorites back on the Switch. Remasters like Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition bring older games to modern systems with enhanced visuals and quality of life improvements. Ports, like the games found in the Nintendo Switch Online library for NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, and Sega Genesis, bring nostalgic games to our fingertips, typically at reduced costs compared to the original. And then there are remakes, when an entire game is redone from the ground up, like The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. 

One Nintendo console seems to be lacking representation though. The GameCube falls in this weird gap between retro consoles that could be added to the NSO Library and remade or recent games that can be easily transferred over to the Switch with a few graphical updates and patches. The Switch has seen a few GameCube games like Super Mario Sunshine and Resident Evil 4, but the vast library of GameCube games still remains untouched by the Nintendo Switch. What GameCube games deserve their time in the sun on Nintendo Switch?

While the Nintendo Switch hasn’t seen many GameCube games, other systems have. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is on the Wii U, Luigi’s Mansion on 3DS; some have even rereleased on other consoles, like Tales of Symphonia on the PlayStation 3 and Tales of Symphonia Chronicles on PC. It’s fair to say that a title from the GameCube that has already been put on a different system could easily find its way to the Switch.

There’s also the idea of Nintendo adding the GameCube to its Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. While these games are simply ports, this inclusion would be a great way of bringing us games that we haven’t seen since the GameCube. We could see games like Mario Kart: Double Dash, Star Fox Adventures, Pokémon Colosseum, and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. This may raise the Expansion Pack’s price, or even introduce a newer, higher tier of the online service, but could definitely give customers their money’s worth. 

I personally have three games that I’d love to see. First, Tales of Symphonia. This is a fan favorite in the JRPG series Tales, and has already been remastered once before. Now that Tales of Arise has been released, what would be better for the series than revitalizing one of their most beloved games with upscaled graphics and more modern gameplay?

Another I’d love to see is Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. I borrowed this game from a roommate in college and had a blast; though today, you’d be lucky to find a copy of the game for under $100. The game stars Ike, whom fans would easily recognize from Super Smash Bros. With other Fire Emblem games being rereleased, like 2017’s Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, bringing back this game would be an absolute treat.

Lastly, I’d love to see Star Fox Assault. Star Fox hasn’t gotten very much representation on Nintendo’s latest console, and bringing back a lesser known, albeit fantastic game could be exactly what the franchise needs to bring it back to the forefront of Nintendo’s lineup.
