Watching the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct in April brought many surprises, both with its hardware and its software. We saw more in-depth information on its internal specifications, its accessories, and first- and third-party games. We saw a plethora of titles that have not previously come to Nintendo consoles that were a welcomed sight, but nothing prepared the viewers for an IP that was revealed in a new trailer during the Direct.
When the trailer of a man with whitish-gray hair slumped in a chair in a dark room came across my tv so many things flashed in my mind. Is this Castlevania, a new IP perhaps? We then see a hand and a woman talk as she transfers her lifeblood over to the man and we gasp as we see From Software flash on screen. New thoughts then flooded my brain. Is it Bloodborne, and again perhaps a new IP? Well as the trailer progress we learn of course that it is a new game called The Duskbloods coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
I was excited to see a new game by From Software, especially a new IP. I was excited that Nintendo was able to get an exclusive once again on a Nintendo console. After the direct I watched a lot of different people’s reactions to the direct and focused mainly on a few titles including The Duskbloods. I was quite surprised at the varying responses of people who were saying that they can’t believe Nintendo could get an exclusive IP from From Software, while others were questioning why this would be on a Nintendo console in the first place. I was surprised at how many people didn’t know that this wasn’t the first From Software title on a Nintendo Console.
Back in 2002 on the Nintendo GameCube From Software published through Activision, brought Lost Kingdoms to the system. The game was an action RPG that used a real-time card battling system that follows Katia who is on a mission to stop the black fog that is killing people. You needed to defeat enemies to turn them into summon cards to fight on your behalf. I enjoyed the game especially with the unique spin on the gameplay. From Software has been around since the 80s and has been making games since 1994, so I can see how information about the past can be clouded. When thinking about game releases, it’s a business, and all businesses make deals, this is just another deal in a long line of deals. What we should be excited about is more games, more variety, more fans. Only then can we continue to receive new and continued IPs from a company.
Are you excited for The Duskbloods or the Nintendo Switch 2? Did you know From Software had already had an exclusive game on a Nintendo console before? Have you played or heard of Lost Kingdoms before? What are your thoughts on this topic?
