The movie Sonic The Hedgehog 2 collected many coins, so why not continue to speed things up with a new 15 minute Sonic Central presentation? With SEGA showcasing games and more, let’s dive in and look back on what stood out.
Sonic Origins:
Sonic Origins is jam-packed with a great list of classic Sonic games that were originally released on the Sega Genesis. These games have been remastered to look and run smooth on current gen consoles. The games included in this collection are Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. Sonic Origins will have new characters, enhanced visuals, classic mode, anniversary mode, special stages, and more awesome features! Sonic Origins will be released on Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 on June 23, 2022. Check out the release date trailer below:
Sonic Updates:
This summer, players of Sonic Forces and Sonic Dash will be able to unlock movie-themed characters. Joining the battles in Sonic Forces will be “Super Shadow” this November and “Mephiles The Dark” this Halloween. “Sir Pursable” will be unlocked in Sonic Dash along with new exciting player banners. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails are coming to the free-to-play game, Fall Guys, this August as well.
A new Netflix animated series Sonic Prime is coming soon–announced via a teaser trailer. Check out the trailer below showing Shadow and Sonic. I’m very excited to see more about this series in the near future.
Sonic Frontiers:
A new gameplay reveal for Sonic Frontiers premiered at Sonic Central, a title that takes a whole new approach in the Sonic franchise. Compared to the size of the speedy little blue hedgehog, Sonic Frontiers‘ world looks massive. During the premier, there were also mentions of a first look at gameplay over at IGN. Gazing at mountains in the distance and watching Sonic traverse through spiraling platforms and fast acting obstacle courses, it’s hard to not be amazed about the step forward the Sonic team has taken. Breath of the hedgehog? Sorry Zelda BOTW fans, but Sonic Frontiers mentioned having large zones rather than an open-world without limitations. This game seems to easily captivate its audience in the landscape alone, from traveling the grasslands between trees, interesting architects, mountains, creeks and more. These islands look so mysterious, and the music is soothing and strange.
Sonic Frontiers is a 3D action game with a lot of brilliant features such as traveling these gorgeous, vibrant islands by ground and floating grind rails. There are big races where Sonic will have to get from point A to Point B as quickly as possible before the time runs out. Another great feature you may encounter while traveling is the combat when encountering enemies and enormous Eiffel Tower sized bosses with interesting battle mechanics like timing attacks, dodging, and parrying an attack. All these great qualities makes for a big step in this massive, vibrant, fast paced world.
