Boss Rush Banter: What Did You Think of the September 2022 Nintendo Direct?

2–3 minutes

Nintendo finally came through with a hearty Direct that aired Tuesday, September 13th, 2022. With over thirty new game announcements, ports, and updates, I’m here to survey everyone with their thoughts on this presentation. What did you think of the September Direct?

Regardless of whether you loved or hated it, no one can deny the number of announcements and the incredible variety. The Nintendo Direct opened with a major franchise–Fire Emblem–with Fire Emblem: Engage. Other major first part announcements included Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Wave 2 Expansion Pass, a post-launch Splatfest for Splatoon 3, Mario Strikers: Battle League – Pauline, Diddy Kong free update, Pikmin 4, Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe, and of course, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

We also received a wide spread of ports, including the popular Tunic and Cloud versions of Resident Evil 2, 3, 7, and 8.

I was personally excited for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion announcements for future N64 games including Pilotwings 64 and GoldenEye 007.

The rumored GameBoy and GameBoy Advance NSO, Twilight Princess and Windwaker ports, and Metroid Prime remakes were sorely absent. Many were disappointed; however, I feel it’s important to be mindful that these are all rumors–and who knows, maybe we will see them at a later date.

Personally, Nintendo hit this one out of the park. This was the content gamers needed since the spring, and we now have a healthy roadmap for games on this beloved platform. Please share your thoughts with us on our Boss Rush Facebook Group or our Boss Rush Discord!
