Boss Rush Banter: Which Blockbuster Horror Remake Has Fans Most Hyped, Silent Hill 2 or Resident Evil 4?

In one week, the video game world received both the announcement of a Silent Hill 2 remake as well as additional details on the Resident Evil 4 remake. Both have been known to be the more “popular” titles within their respective franchises, which begs the question, which one will make the biggest splash?

While I can’t generalize, gamers tend to be Team Silent Hill or Team Resident Evil. They are two distinct experiences in the genre, with Resident Evil following the survival horror route while Silent Hill takes leans on psychological horror. In some ways, trying to compare the two would be like comparing apples to oranges.

Team Silent Hill

It has been a decade since the last Silent Hill game, and it has a passionate cult-following. Rumors ebbed and flowed throughout the years, feeding fans slivers of hope. Boober Team is taking charge of the Silent Hill 2 remake, and the trailer shows updated graphics to this chilling story. Quite frankly, it looks incredible (despite some complaints on the internet of James Sunderland’s look). Also, Bloober Team–known for The Medium–has proven they can achieve amazing things with the DualSense controller to immerse gamers–so, imagine how they can pull us back into the world of Silent Hill! However, not much else is known other than it will release exclusively on the PlayStation 5.

Team Resident Evil

The latest Resident Evil showcase provided a new trailer, featuring breathtaking next-gen graphics and details on gameplay. While the remake is staying true to the world of RE4, players will have a richer experience: Leon will have added moves like the parry, and enemies will have updated AI. This remake arrives March 24th, 2023.

Who’s Got the Edge?

Not to take the easy way out, but I honestly feel the hype will be shared between the two remakes. The Silent Hill 2 remake announcement sent shockwaves throughout the horror community. Then, the Resident Evil 4 remake will take the slight edge with a sooner release date and actual information available about the gameplay. It will be tough to predict the more successful remake in the end because Capcom has already experienced major success with rehashing Resident Evil 2 and 3, and Konami has a lot to lose (or gain) with dipping their toe back into their franchise after ten long years. If Silent Hill 2 is executed well, Capcom may have to work hard to raise the bar for their next Resident Evil release!
