Marvel Studios has shaken up its release calendar, delaying several movies part of Phases 5 and 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The delay affects four movies — Blade, Deadpool 3, Fantastic Four, and Avengers: Secret Wars — all slated to release from 2023-25. These delays come on the heels of Marvel and Blade director Bassam Tariq parting ways, bringing production of the movie to a halt.
Blade is slated to release Sept. 6, 2024, backing out of its original Nov. 3, 2023 release date. The movie will feature Mahershala Ali as the eponymous vampire hunter.
The untitled Deadpool 3 saw the shortest delay as the new release is slated for Nov. 8, 2024 rather than the original Sept. 6, 2024. This comes after Ryan Reynolds recently surprised fans with the addition of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine to the cast along with the old release date.
Fantastic Four will also see a short delay, hitting theaters Feb. 14, 2025 rather than Nov. 8, 2024. Not much is known about this film except that WandaVision director Matt Shakman is leading the production.
The final delay is the Multiverse Sage culmination film Avengers: Secret Wars, which has plans to release May 1, 2026 rather than Nov. 7, 2025. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is still slated for a May 2, 2025 release though the delay of Avengers: Secret Wars puts a year between the two Avengers movies.
Blade is slated as part of Phase 5 while Fantastic Four and Avengers: Secret Wars are part of Phase 6. There is no official word on where Deadpool 3 will fall as Fantastic Four is set to kick-off Phase 6.
Marvel announced the majority of these release dates during its San Diego Comic-Con presentation. Deadpool 3 was the anomaly as its announcement came via Twitter a couple of weeks after the D23 Expo in September.
Delays are never fun, but the good news is none of these are significantly long delays. The biggest thorn may be Avengers: Secret Wars as many were looking forward to the release, including us at Boss Rush as we counted down until the movie drops.
Still, the delay is better now rather than when we have more information as we haven’t had a good chance to get too attached to them with the exception of Deadpool 3.
