HBO’s The Last of Us Adaptation Listed to Premiere January 15

According to numerous sightings by users of HBO Max, HBO’s adaptation of the video game The Last of Us is listed as premiering on January 15 for the United States, and January 16 for Eastern Hemisphere regions.

Many users have shared on social media that by logging into HBO Max and going to The Last of Us page, the description reads that the show “[p]remieres Jan. 15.” This seems to only be visible for those logging in from a location in the US, or using a VPN.

HBO’s main website still has a placeholder release date as “2023,” though that may change soon.

Some subscribers to Sky Cable, which is based in the Philippines, has reportedly received a promotional email as early as October 20 with a release date of January 16. Considering the difference in time zones, this would check out.

HBO officially announced The Last of US television show in March 2020; it is a joint production of Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Naughty Dog, and Warner Bros. Discovery.

The show stars Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, Narcos, The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones, Catherine Called Birdy) and protagonists Joel and Ellie respectively: two survivors in a post-apocalyptic United States. The show is expected to follow the events of the first game in the series, and will introduce some new elements to keep the plot fresh.
