Regardless of how well or how poorly 2022 went for you, a new year will soon be underway. Yes, the mention of New Year’s Resolutions may come off as cliche, but hear me out. With the understanding that things don’t change in the snap of a 24-hour time period, resolutions can still prove to be a useful tool to motivate you on some goals that grew stale over the course of the year.
Some reasons why New Year’s Resolutions never make it past the first few weeks are that the goals are too vague and/or that they are unattainable. It’s the same with those that “want to lose weight”. It may be just too vague or intimidating that the majority of people abandon that treadmill by the Super Bowl.
Keeping those pointers in mind, what would be some of your New Year Gaming Resolutions? Here are mine:
No More Day One Purchases–Unless it’s Zelda or a Game I Know I Will Play Day One
I made the mistake of pre-ordering or purchasing too many video games outright this year. Turns out, I didn’t play the majority of them on day one. Then, weeks or months later, they are discounted or on Game Pass. 2022 was a year of FOMO for me, and I sank a lot of dollars because of that. It is rare that a video game will be sold out or unavailable at any given time. I’m on a tight budget next year, so I’m saving my dollars for a handful of titles that I know I will play immediately–one of which would be the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Clear My Backlog By Two AAA Titles and Two Indies
Wait, just four backlog games? Well, this is where setting the bar low will help me attain my goal. This past year, I was adamant on clearing out my entire backlog. How many times have you or someone else say that? Completing an entire backlog in one year would require serious time–so unless you’re rich and unemployed with zero responsibilities, it isn’t going to happen. By setting a specific, measurable, and attainable goal, I am more likely to complete some video games in 2023!
