Nintendo announced today during the Nintendo Direct that the Sea of Stars demo is now available on the switch. They also announced the game will be fully released on August 29 later this year.
The reveal trailer of this indie adventure game originally came out on March 19, 2020, and had been a project in the works since late 2018.
Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG developed by Sabotage Studio. It’s a story set in The Messenger’s universe about two Children of the Solstice whose combined powers perform Eclipse Magic to fight the evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer. Alongside the two Children of the Solstice, Valere and Zale, is a warrior-cook named Garl who joins them on their adventures.

Sabotage Studio confirmed the game will be available on Steam, the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5. They have also confirmed that the demo will also be made available for other consoles later in the year.
The game features music made with a special guest composer, Yasunori Mitsuda whose work has appeared in Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. There are three songs currently available to listen to from the Sea of Stars OST developed by Sabotage Studio’s composer Eric W. Brown through the Sea of Stars website.
The Sea of Stars website includes more information about the features of this game as well.
With the turn-based battles, the developers revealed there are time-based hits and multi-character attacks, boosting, and a “locks” system with different damage types to stop enemies while they’re powering up. There are no random encounters, no transitions to different battlefields, and no grinding.
The game also allows players to swim, climb, jump off, or jump onto ledges throughout the world based on platformer-like maps.
Sea of Stars isn’t only about experiencing battle and adventure. Players can sail, cook, fish, stop by a tavern for music, and play a tabletop game known as “Wheels”. Studio Sabotage wants players to have an experience like retro classics that have been smoothed out and modernized.

The game also has dynamic lighting meaning there are day and night cycles, weather effects, eclipses, and blood moons that happen on their own. As the characters grow stronger, players will eventually gain control over the sun and moon which will allow them to solve certain puzzles in the game and give ambiance to the players’ favorite areas.
