E3 2023 is Officially Cancelled

E3 2023 has been canceled, an official statement by the ESA and ReedPop confirms. The event was scheduled for June 13-16 in Los Angeles.

According to an email sent to members obtained by IGN, Kyle Marsden-Kish, ReedPop’s Global VP of Gaming, issued the following statement:

“This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.”

The press release adds that ReedPop and the ESA will continue to work together on “future E3 events.”

E3 was scheduled to take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 13 to June 16, and it would have been the first in-person E3 since 2019. However, the event was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, a digital version of the event was held, but in 2022 the event was canceled in order to focus on a “revitalized showcase” that will set a new industry standard.

After months of rumors about the state of the event, E3’s cancellation for 2022 was announced last June, along with the news that several big names in the industry, including Xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation, and Ubisoft, would not be attending in any capacity. Instead, many opted to host their own digital showcases, with Ubisoft announcing its own event, Ubisoft Forward, to be held in June. Earlier this week, two more exhibitors, SEGA and Tencent, announced their departure from the event.
