Square Enix Sets Release Date for Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster has a firm date for release on console.

Square Enix officially revealed the remasters of the first six 2D Final Fantasy games would be available on April 19 at 8 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. These games will be available as a bundle or individually on both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

Digital preorders are open, setting the bundle cost at $74.99 for all six games, which includes Final Fantasy I through VI. Players can also purchase the games individually with the first two costing $11.99 each while the remaining four will carry a $17.99 price tag.

Square Enix released a trailer to go along with the announcement, showcasing some of the changes coming to the remasters.

This included the ability to change soundtracks from the original cuts to an orchestral arrangement. The remasters also allow players to change the game fonts from to a pixel-based option as well as turn off random encounters and adjust experience gained through sped up gameplay or adjusted EXP boosts.

Prior to this announcement, the remasters had only been slated for a spring 2023 release. Square Enix did set a tentative release date of May 31 on its stores for those wanting to preorder the games.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster include the first six games in the long-running franchise, all of which originally appeared on Nintendo consoles at initial release.

The original announcement came last December and preorders went live on the Square Enix store at that time. This announcement came shortly after the ESRB rated the games for Switch and PlayStation 4.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster originally appeared on PC and mobile devices in 2021. This release marks the collection’s first appearance on consoles.

This collection features updated visuals, streamlined gameplay, and other improvements. It does, however, lack additional content that appeared in previous rereleases of the titles.
