Sonic the Hedgehog Spinoff Series Knuckles Has Officially Started Production

Paramount officially announced a Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff series called Knuckles, which officially began production and is slated to release for Paramount Plus. 

The show was initially announced in February 2022. Idris Elba is reprising the role of Knuckles from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 while Adam Pally (Happy Endings) will reprise his role as Wade Whipple in the series.

The story takes place between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and is set to arrive in theaters on December 20, 2024. Knuckles accepts to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior in the series.

The show will also include Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), Julian Barratt (Mindhorn), Scott Mescudi (Don’t Look Up), Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso), and Rory McCann (Game of Thrones). In addition, Tika Sumpter will be reprising the role of Maddie from the films.

The series is under production. Jeff Fowler will return to direct the plot and executive produce the series. John Whittington, who worked on the script for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, will be created the pilot for Knuckles and acts as the series lead writer and executive producer. James Madejski and Brian Schacter will also write for the show.

Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker are the additional Knuckles series directors. Elba will join Whittington, Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara on the film’s creative team as executive producers.
