Boss Rush Banter: Which The Simpsons Side Character is Your Favorite?

The Simpsons has found a place in the entertainment world for over 30 years, despite any debates in quality.

One of the show’s endearing traits is the wide cast of characters. This is the benefit of an animated show because fewer actors can provide voices to many different characters.

While the titular Simpson family plays a main role in the animated sitcom, it is the side characters that really bolster the show and make Springfield the quirky place with no state that everyone wants to visit.

So, which side character from The Simpsons is your favorite?

There are various degrees of side characters in the show. There are some like Ned Flanders, Patty, Selma, Moe, and Chief Wiggum who show up regularly. On the other hand, there are many like Dr. Nick, Hans Moleman, Duffman, and many more who make sporadic appearances.

Many of these characters carry the voice of one of main cast members with Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer shouldering many of them. Others rely on celebrities to voice on sporadic appearances such as Kelsey Grammer as Sideshow Bob and Glenn Close as Homer’s mom.

Having so many different characters really adds to the funniness of the show. A well-time joke from Reverend Lovejoy always lands better than if Homer or Bart tells it.

Each character has their place and having so many side characters really helps ensure that the main cast doesn’t get stale.

I’ve always loved Hans Moleman. The Simpsons loves making fun of the elderly and Moleman often gets the most brutal jokes that yield a big laugh. You don’t see him as much, but when he shows up, it is always worth it.

Another great side character is Sideshow Bob. Grammer absolutely kills — see what I did there? — as the voice actor. Bob doesn’t work without Grammer providing the voice and the Frasier-humor works here because The Simpsons is the opposite of Frasier.

There are so many great characters to choose from, including many that no longer appear like Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz due to Phil Hartman’s death. Each one plays a pivotal role in the show’s success and has helped The Simpsons have such a long run.

There are better characters, but I’m fond of McBain.

He does have some fantastic moments. I die everytime he says “the goggles, they do nothing.”
