Boss Rush Banter: Are You Satisfied with the Factions in Warhammer: The Old World?

If you asked fans of Warhammer Fantasy even last month, “Which factions do you think will be featured in Warhammer: The Old World?” you’d get five easy answers. Bretonnia, The Tomb Kings, The Empire, Kislev, and Grand Cathey. All of them had been hinted at, or previewed, and were the safest of safe bets.

The final two factions were the most exciting: Kislev had never been fully supported with an army, always relying on the grace of the other player and Empire models to fill out the ranks for a battle, and Grand Cathey was a long-established faction which had only begun to be seriously explored in the latest Warhammer: Total War game.

Games Workshop’s announcement about which factions would receive models, and which would only receive updated rules, passed over both for either category. Only the Empire, the Dwarfs, the Bretonnians, the Tomb Kings, the Wood Elves, the High Elves, the Orcs & Goblins, Warriors of Chaos, and Beastmen would receive models. The Dark Elves, Skaven, Vampire Counts, Daemons of Chaos, Ogre Kingdoms, Lizardmen, and Chaos Dwarfs would only receive free PDF updated rules.

It’s hard not to be disappointed that unpopular factions like the Beastmen will receive new models while fan-favorites won’t. It’s understandable that the Lizardmen and Skaven are outside the scope of the meta-plot, but as for Kislev and Grand Cathey…

Ultimately, I wish Games Workshop would confirm if Kislev and Grand Cathey have either been quietly canceled, or delayed for a future expansion.

What do you think? Are you satisfied with the factions for Warhammer: The Old World?
