The PlayStation Showcase premiered May 25 with its hour-long presentation and during the tail end of the event, we got a reveal of Sony’s next addition to the PlayStation family: Project Q. The Project Q is a handheld streaming device that would allow players to enjoy their PlayStation 5 games while having the console around. While being accessible through your Wi-Fi, it was mentioned that players will only be able to stream preinstalled games on their console. There was no mention of whether or not you can take the device further outside and on the on go where you can enjoy games like Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales.
With its 8-inch HD screen and buttons of the Dual Sense controller on its sides, and if it is revealed later on that it will only be able to play those preinstalled games, will this remind us of a certain familiar failed console? If you remember, the Nintendo Wii U’s console included a touchscreen gamepad with numerous features such as acting as a TV remote and so on, but the tech was only limited to your Wi-Fi inside your home. The hardware limitations and lackluster first-party games resulted in poor sales.
Will this be the same situation for Project Q? If so, will it share the same fate as the Wii U? We’ll have to find when the next handheld is scheduled to launch later this year.
