You read that title right from this Nintendo Fan Boy. I am saving to get a PlayStation 5 Pro this coming November. With a heavy price of $699.99 (USD) plus tax, this digital-only console will have the latest tech for the PlayStation 5 console series.
I have three reasons why I am excited to buy this system and why the negative opinions haven’t persuaded me not to purchase it.
My first reason is that I don’t own a PlayStation 5. It was always in my wheelhouse to buy the console but it was always sold out, Sony had a weird system for buying one online, and I ended up giving up that I would never get one. I tried to buy one from a friend but FedEx never delivered it to my house even though they said they did. It was all a fiasco. Nevertheless, when rumors of a Pro version started to appear, I just decided to wait for an announcement from Sony because evidently, it was going to happen and it did (Sony with the Slim versions of their console and then the PS4 Pro happen to counter Xbox One X).
My second reason is the games. For most of Sony’s first party when the system was released, most of the games I owned and finished on the PS4. Outside of Spider-Man 2, Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, and now Astro Bot, there were no games that I needed. Most of the games that were shown when they revealed the PS5 wasn’t out and some still don’t have a date. Stellar Blade looks excellent and Gran Turismo 7 looks slick in its presentation (and no disrespect to Forza Motorsport on Xbox Series X|S). The games and the exclusives weren’t there for me, and I knew I could wait for a later date to get them. Now that the PlayStation 5 Pro will have some additional benefits to some titles that are out or coming soon, I can experience them in a better form and at its best in execution.
My final reason is that, while I have a Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X, I will finally have all three consoles. I must admit, the Switch and Series X have been crushing it with titles that became day-one purchases. I have been enjoying Xbox titles with high fidelity and performance. The multiplatform game that wasn’t coming to Switch but to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, I would buy the game for Xbox. My library of games between the two consoles became bigger with the releases of top-tier games. The Switch just kept delivering must-have after must-have games; and with Microsoft releasing titles like Hi-Fi Rush, Gears 5, and Psychonauts 2, PlayStation 5 wasn’t on my mind during that time. With the Pro, I will finally have all three consoles (with the Nintendo successor coming sometime in the future), and I can deliver more opinions and hot takes on games from all three companies. I am a gamer at heart.
Let me address the negative opinions about the PS5 Pro. People have the right to their opinion about the price, not seeing the difference due to YouTube video quality, Sony using old games to show the difference, being disk-less, and having no stand. None of that matters to me.
Retail space is being reduced for video games, the difference will be different when you physically see it at stores or on your TV if you buy it, nothing is wrong with using old games to showcase to get an idea of what the system can do (we all know they don’t have anything in the pipe works to show off until next year). Digital sales are probably higher for PS players, and there’s data that Sony has that can probably prove it–and does a stand affect the usage of the system?
If people are content with the PS5 they have now, awesome. It’s serving your need for gaming, and I love that. I will have my own experience with the new tech inside the system, and I’ll have a lot of games due to sales on PlayStation’s Store. We both are winning because we get to experience different games on both versions of the PlayStation 5. We should be happy with that. I know I am.
