Boss Rush Banter: What Video Game Has The Hardest Fishing Mechanic?

I’m going to cut to the chase. Stardew Valley inspired this question. Never in my life have I ever struggled so hard to catch a pixelated fish. I’ve installed a quality of life mod just to make my farming life easier. The mod automatically catches the fish once the line lands in the water. Some might call it cheating, but I call it a break.

I don’t have a hard time fishing in other games, ignoring the one time I got stuck on a boat with Hosea and Dutch during the “The New South” mission in Read Dead Redemption 2. About twenty minutes went by until a fish decided to bite my line, then all was good. I wouldn’t call the fishing mechanics in Red Dead Redemption 2 hard, but it’s definitely realistic and detail oriented based on the fact you need specific lures and bait for whatever fish you want.

Fishing in Minecraft is alright. The only reason I would pick up a pole and head to a body of water is because I spot a cute cat and I want it. When it comes to the easiest, I have to give that spot to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It’s mostly a waiting game with no further skill required except reaction time and fast fingers. The mechanics are similar to Minecraft, but crowned easier because the bites come with handy haptics and vibration.

Fishing is something I try to avoid in real life and in the virtual world, but I do admit the fishing mini-game in Genshin Impact is pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Which video game do you think has a difficult fishing mechanic? Do you enjoy fishing in games? Are there any games you wish had fishing as an option? 1. When I was little, I use to be rewarded with a random Gameboy game. One time it was a bass fishing game, (when you don’t have many games you take what you can get.)
Well…I played the heck out of that game! I really found my self enjoying it. Since then, I never actively sought out another fishing game, but always enjoy it when a game has a fishing mechanic. When I play minecraft I can spend a good amount of time fishing hopeing for a rare enchanted item to pop up. Or in pokemon fishing to see what pokemon I’ll find. At this point its a favorite past time haha.

Great article, it reminded me of some good memories. 😁
