Back when I was young and dumb, I would be bored to tears when completing a video game and the end credits roll. Not only did I lack appreciation for the developers, but I was too impatient to sit through five minutes of scrolling text. However, in addition to growing up, these developers have either made end credits more interesting, interactive, or provided an incentive by creating a post end credit scene, a la Marvel. I wanted to poll the general gaming community–do you stick around during the end game credits?
The first end credits I found entertaining enough to sit through was Super Smash Bros 64 for the simple fact your could aim and “shoot” each name as it zoomed by. Not only that, but it had catchy music. I also didn’t mind the end credits to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to see how Hyrule celebrated the defeat of Ganondorf (or lament to loss of loved ones…).
More recently, additional incentives include post end credit scenes. Many hint at potential sequels. I loved the one in The Medium which got my hopes high for a sequel in the future (still no news on that, sadly). Similar to Marvel, I’ve been trained to sit through the credits in hopes for a reward. Even when there is no special scene, I don’t mind anymore. I sit through the credits out of respect, while taking time to reflect on my experience with the game, and bask in the (usually) bangin’ music.

I remember beating mega man 3 in NES and being enamored by all the end credits had to offer – especially since it kicked off with a roll call of all the boss masters. Not to mention, the music was a total bop.
Smash Bros Melee kept me around for credits, for sure! 🙂 I think it instilled my interest from a young age to stick around for other credit rolls in case they have additional visuals or scenes, even if they lack the interactivity of Smash.
