Landfall Games pushed back on some folks online who complained that they have a “lazy dev cycle”, demanding more regular updates for their game, Peak. This led to additional discourse on consumer expectations versus video game industry standards, and personally, I’m team Landfall here.
If you missed the exchange online, Games Radar and IGN reported on this story last week. Landfall Games is an indie studio based in Sweden and are known for titles such as Clustertruck, Content Warning, and most recently, a co-op climbing game called Peak. Peak released in June 2025 and amassed critical and financial success. And yet, despite releasing an incredibly fun game, it just isn’t enough for some people.
While the original tweet last week has since been removed, the embarrassing display of entitlement already made its stink, and for once, I am incredibly proud of the developer pushing back. The initial complaint went like this:
“Y’all are mad at Landfall for not releasing a game, I’m mad at Landfall for their lazy dev cycle for Peak when they could be doing so much more with it considering they’re ending development of it this year“ -Credit: IGN
Landfall’s response was thoroughly refreshing:

I encourage developers, publishers, and the community to battle this type of spoiled mindset, especially if the content in question is not a live service type of game. Live service is meant to providing continuing content, as it’s in its nature. Once a video game is published (again, live service excluded), there should be zero expectations for additional content, and the choice to add more lies solely on the developer. The devs own gamers nothing more than the content they paid for, nothing more.
This isn’t new, and if we expanded this topic to any sort of follow-up content like DLC, we could be here for the rest of the day. Whether it’s add-on content like new environments or an entire DLC, those are supplemental to the original game. And honestly, while I like a free update, I also think we as gamers should not expect them to be free. I know, hot take. I don’t want to spend more money, but all I’m saying is that there is no rule that developers are obligated to not only provide additional content but additional content for free.
Keep in mind, these are human beings who are making a living, at least until AI replaces content creation (which I hope I’m dead and buried by that time). Game development is hard work, and a quality game takes time. You would never expect an additional appetizer or dessert that’s not listed on a menu at a restaurant you’re eating at, and you certainly don’t expect it for free. If you watch a movie, you don’t sit there expecting, nor demanding, additional scenes (Marvel definitely set the precedent for post-credit stuff). It doesn’t make sense.
These gamers should know better. So, I am proud of Landfall for speaking out, and I encourage more to reset these privileged expectations, so the video game community can be a more bearable one to live in.
