Reactions to the State of Play
This was a mixed State of Play for me.
I thought it did a good job at hyping the necessary games such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It spent quite a bit of time on these two and really added to the anticipation.
The biggest surprise of the showcase was the Tales of Arise DLC. Many fans thought the ship had sailed on returning to this game, but Bandai Namco decided to keep it alive for a bit longer.
This DLC is boasting 20 hours of content so it will be a good appetizer as fans wait for the next Tales game. It certainly moved Tales of Arise up my to-play list.
The last game of note for me was Baby Steps. I thought this was such a good way to start off the stream because it has the main character waking up from a daze while on a mountainside. It was the perfect amount of weird to get me intriguied in the game.
I’m a new PlayStation owner so I have yet to develop the jaded feelings many have toward Sony. The company definitely has earned its fair share of criticism largely thanks to the increase of price to PS Plus.
Sony needed something that gave it some goodwill with fans. I’m not sure this accomplished that as there are many questions still on the table moving forward.
Still, FFVII Rebirth looked bomb.
