Earlier this year, I attended PAX East and met the amazing dev duo who are working on their latest project–A Corgi’s Cozy Hike. To summarize, this indie game is about a corgi exploring a gorgeous island and living life as a good lil doggo should. On top of that, the devs plan on using 10% of profits toward rescuing dogs IRL! As their Kickstarter is approaching their deadline, I was able to demo A Corgi’s Cozy Hike (alpha).
The demo allowed me to explore the island as an adorable corgi, and do almost everything. The story is still kept behind the curtain, but I was able to experience the platforming and collecting elements of the game.
Here are some fast facts:
- Developer: Scalisco
- Release Date: Q1 2024
- Platforms: PC, Mac
Upon release of the game, 10% of A Corgi’s Cozy Hike’s lifetime net revenue will be donated to non-profits proven to help animals.

Art Style and Music
The colors are vibrant and the music fits perfectly in this cozy game. The artistic direction matches the upbeat and happy mood with its cell-shaded style. The direction of both art and music successfully sucked me into the game.

Gameplay
Moving as a corgi couldn’t be any more fun. I found the movement incredibly smooth. You can jump, butt slam (yes!), climb, and glide across the level. The button controls felt natural, and I had little trouble accessing wherever I wanted to go. Now, it can’t always be that easy, right? Your corgi has a “stamina” bar so to speak when it comes to climbing, and you can collect “corgi butt powers” to increase your stamina.
There is no violence–not even fall damage. This allowed me to focus on exploring, and I was pleasantly surprised to find little things to do, such as helping a friend start a fire and scoring a goal with a beach ball. The abundance of these secrets kept exploration fresh. I do wish there was a map–but A Corgi’s Cozy Hike is still in its alpha phase, so who knows!
Lastly, I did want to speak at its quality. For a game still in its alpha stage, I would say its pretty polished. This leaves me confident that when the game is complete, it will be a flawless indie game for gamers to dig their paws into.
Conclusion
Check A Corgi’s Cozy Hike out on Scalisco’s Kickstarter! It is on its last week, so please read the webpage and consider backing them. I plan on playing it again when it makes its grand debut, and you bet your little butts that I will write a follow-up review!
