On their 5th anniversary, Dimension 20 dropped a teaser announcing our favorite Bad Kids will be returning to Fantasy High for their junior year! Fans are obsessing, analyzing every inch, so let’s jump in and see what we can pull from these fantastic 33 seconds.
Not much is known about the upcoming season, but speculations range from a return of The Night Yorb and Chungledown Bim to more serious guesses which include another trip into the infernal, bringing back the celestial spy network of Pok Gukgak.
With the teaser panning up from the base of a locker, we have a number of clues, but what they add up to, we can’t be sure. First, the locker has a sword and shield with a dragon poster on the side. As we see notebooks and other school supplies sitting beside a bubbling red potion on the second level, there are sticky notes mentioning club meetings, including Bloodrush practice. The books on the top shelf vary from spell books to Begginer’s Guide to Sneak Attacks and Are You There God? It’s Me. Your Cleric. The references appear to bounce between all six of Bad Kids, but no clues stick out about our potential antagonist.
However, the thumbnail for the video may just have a clue. Shattered pieces of what appears to be stone show a red eye in a matching red face. With a background of what looks like Scantron sheets and a dragon alongside a ship, could we be seeing the return of Kalvaxus? Unlikely, as in his more humanoid form Goldenhoard, Kalvaxus had yellow eyes.
Some have argued that classifying Kalvaxus’s cursed form as a Dragonborn is incorrect due to his tail in the character art, and when comparing to a Half-dragon, the latter definitely fits the artwork better; however, with Kalvaxus’s age, it isn’t entirely unrealistic for him to have a Half-dragon child who might serve as a Red Herring or even a minor antagonist while distracting from the actual big bad.
The background of a dragon and a pirate ship might suggest a much simpler issue. We already know that Captain Bill Seacaster and his crew turned Kalvaxus to a living ship in Hell. Tensions were high in Hell during Fantasy High: Sophomore Year, and despite dealing with a number of threads, plenty were left open for exploration in the upcoming season. Which one remains to be seen.
