Recently, news broke that Nintendo is looking around for fresh third-party partnerships for their next console. While this naturally occurs so Nintendo can provide indie titles for their gamers, VGC reports that Nintendo is also seeking partners to work on their prized IP. With recent successes like WayForward’s Advance Wars: 1 + 2 Reboot Camp and MercurySteam’s Metroid Dread, which Nintendo IP would you want to see in the hands of other developers?
I see the concept of lending a third-party developer a Nintendo IP as an opportunity to provide a fresh spin on things. It would be highly unlikely for Nintendo to give another studio the most popular franchises like Mario, but on the other hand, they did let Capcom work on a few Zelda titles in the past.
In my opinion, a stale franchise in need of a coat of paint like Starfox, would be a prime candidate for a third-party developer (Platinum has hand its hand in Starfox before). Two others I could think of are F-Zero and Kid Icarus. Nintendo recently dropped F-Zero 99, and I feel that they are testing the waters to see if there is a demand for good ol’ Captain Falcon.
If Nintendo was willing, I would be completely down with a spin-off from a more “popular” franchise, like a Tingle game (Legend of Zelda) or a new Yoshi title (Mario).
Either way, I’m looking forward to seeing who Nintendo will partner with and with what franchises. It’s not often that Nintendo is willing to share IP. What would you want to see? Please share your thoughts with us on our Boss Rush Facebook Group or our Boss Rush Discord.
