Happy Pokémon Day!
There were several updates and a few new announcements during the 2024 Pokémon Direct that aired February 27, 2024 at 9 A.M. EST. One of the tentpole announcements takes the Pokémon Trading Card Game digital in an immersive and streamlined fashion.
The trailer features several people enjoying opening their packs (with a satisfying ripping noise, mind you) on their mobile device. You can look through your pack with the swipe of a finger, then view your collection in different ways such as binders, display boards, and decks.
The digital experience allows the owner to view their cards in ways they can’t on paper.
In a partnership between The Pokémon Company, Creatures Inc., and :DeNa, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket will drop sometime this year in the Apple and Google Play app store.
Features include opening digital packs, sending packs or trading cards with friends, quick battles with friends, and immersive card designs. The trailer also boasts two free packs per day!
The CEO and President of Creatures Inc. had this to say during the Pokémon Presents:
Since this game uses mobile devices rather than paper, we’re challenging ourselves to express that care in new ways that are only possible digitally, such as using the characteristics of the screen to show off brilliant colors and stylish effects. One way we’re accomplishing this is with immersive cards, which give players the experience of leaping into the world of the card illustration. Once more we developed streamlined game rules based on our existing battle system, so you can enjoy a quick battle during the free moments in your day.
