How much different would the world be if colonialism never happened? Well, the folks over at Rainbow Unicorn Games are curating this narrative adventure for you in Romancing Jan!
Romancing Jan is a diverse and inclusive alternative history Regency inspired experience. Immerse yourself in a narrative adventure inspired by the fiction of Jane Austen but set in England where High Society treats all people of any gender, sexuality, race, or ethnicity as equals.

I had a chance to speak with the team to learn more about Romancing Jan. They truly believe in inclusivity and have even worked with indigenous people to make sure they are properly represented in their game. While players will navigate a new iteration of history without colonialism, we can expect challenges such as classism and you must choose whether to align with, or strike down, the monarchy!
Because of this, there are numerous dialogue choices to make which can impact the outcome of the game. Romancing Jan will provide players with a suitable power fantasy.
I played the demo and thoroughly enjoyed it. I got to customize my character and select a ring which boosted one stat of my choice. The developers indicated they are working on more character customization options, including a means to tie stat building to the character themselves versus limiting them within outfits and accessories.
Rainbow Unicorn Games is currently working on a PC version of Romancing Jan. Their release date is TBD, and they plan on launching a Kickstarter soon. So, I recommend following them for updates.
If you are at PAX East, be sure to stop by booth 24096 to play the demo! Keep in mind–they worked on Romancing Jan for only eight weeks prior to PAX. If they created this in eight weeks, I am eager to see the final product!
