Cloak and Corvid’s booth at PAX West was an experience itself. I felt like I stepped into a royal courtyard with silver platters of decadent macaroons (they were fidget clickers, which were pretty awesome). I dragged Corey with me to play this co-op monster dating sim with elevated taste. There were aristocrats, high-society, fancy gowns, and luxurious locales.
After Corey and I picked our characters, we chose how we wanted to spend our morning and evenings. Gossip acts almost like a currency in this game as Corey and I played on separate devices, trying to get the best odds at the showdown at the ball where we had an opportunity for three dances. There were times the gossip I shared bored my date, and others, it curried favor with them.
The session was fun yet brief enough not to overstay its welcome. While it feels like development is still in its early stages, the experience was delightful, and I look forward to seeing more of Midnight Callers. We will share the Steam page whenever it becomes available, but feel free to check out the developer website.
