For better or worse, a near universal aspect of nerdom is a love of correcting and, by doing so, showing off our love for a topic through how much we know. Um, Actually perfectly fed into this. Mike Trapp’s gameshow spans from the traditionally nerdy to subjects which usually dodge the label, revealing the passion which connects fan across genres. Whatever your fancy, odds are that Um, Actually has touched upon it. That’s what makes it so well-loved. It’s also why it was a huge risk changing hosts.
Dropout announced Mike’s retirement back in February, and Ify Nwadiwe took up the heavy mantel of host. Change is always a risk, but Dropout rarely shies away from taking risks, and in many ways, their selection of Ify was no just well though out but a long time coming.
As a multi-time champion of the show, he had the knowledge base for the chair, and his comedic timing and capacity to strike up a rapport with his contestants make him the ideal heir of Mike’s seat.

Of course, this season also isn’t the first time Ify has hosted the show. Back in 2022’s Um, Actually – Switcheroo!, Iffy put contestants through their paces, including Mike Trap himself, so watchers had high expectations, and Ify’s more than lived up to them. He has managed to revitalize an already vibrant series, carving out a place for himself while uplifting everything that made the show brilliant from its conception.
Though it is still early days, we’re excited to see what Ify and his fact checker, Brian David Gilbert, do next!
